2021 Theme

Grounded in Tradition, Resilient in Spirit

Mr.Williams is a Chief Warrant officer in the USCG and is active in promoting diversity and inclusion within the force. This year, he made sure the celebration was a success and honored America's indigenous community. He reached out our Rochelle Diver to be the 2021 guest speaker. Ms.Diver spoke about the history of the Native peoples in the Bay Area, the occupation of Alcatraz, and the Indian Treaty Council and how they went to the United Nations to urge them to create what we know today as the United Forum for Indigenous Peoples.

Rochelle Diver, Anishinaabe, is a member of Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. She is currently a consultant for the International Indian Treaty Council’s (IITC), an organization of Indigenous Peoples from North, Central, South America, the Caribbean and the Pacific working for the sovereignty and self-determination of Indigenous Peoples and the recognition and protection of Indigenous rights, treaties, traditional cultures and sacred lands. Rochelle’s work focuses on the interconnectedness between environmental toxics, women’s reproductive health and health for Indigenous women, girls, and future generations.  Rochelle feels a strong obligation to fight for clean air, water, and food sovereignty near her homelands in the Great Lakes region as well as around the globe. She has proudly represented her Nation and the IITC in various United Nation’s Treaty Bodies and mechanisms including the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Minamata Convention on Mercury, the Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions and the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. She has also organized grassroots human rights and capacity building trainings on environmental health locally, nationally and internationally. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from University of Minnesota in Sociology and American Indian Studies and Master of Human Rights from the University of Sydney.

How

Picture

is helping with goal #7: to ensure affordable and clean energy access for all

by 2030

Picture
EDFU Foundation has participated in the UN CSW forum since 2019, where we have put emphasis on side events that increase awareness for technology and resources that will help the environment and help to bring awareness to lack of resources, such as energy.
Picture
EDFU Foundation supports and is working towards a basic income for all, so that resources for clean energy are available and affordable. We continue to advocate and vocalize the need for a basic income on all platforms and programs that we have available to us.
Picture
EDFU Foundation has started "Project Sankofa" in order to bring together indigenous and marginalized communities, so that we can learn from one another and share resources for a better life for all. We recently have met with indigenous groups who can help us achieve independent and affordable energy.

Checkpoint

Picture

What EDFU is doing to ensure clean water and sanitation for all by 2030:

Picture
EDFU Foundation created and operates the Bay Area Street Pantry in Oakland, CA, USA to help feed the homeless and hungry. We try to handout water and refreshments when possible so that all people are able to have access to safe drinking water.

Black and brown communities are affected the most when it comes to having access to food, shelter, and safe & clean water. This is a major part in why EDFU Foundation focuses on these communities.

Picture
EDFU Foundation will be attending the United Nations Stockholm +49 Summit on October 20-21, 2022. The summit will aim to create a declaration and plan of action to address climate issues that are affecting our environment and wildlife. These issues will include water conditions in our ecosystems, for wildlife, and how humans are affected.
Picture
EDFU Foundation is always advocating and bringing awareness to the issue of clean water and sanitation for all. During CSW65, EDFU Foundation hosted parallel event entitled "Solutions for Sustainability in Marginalized Communities", where we discussed these issues with other individuals.
Picture
EDFU Foundation sent members to attend the United Nations Climate Summit in 2019, where they discussed the Sustainable Development Goals and what we can do to improve climate destruction which is effecting our water and hygiene.
Picture
EDFU Foundation supports and is working towards a basic income for all, so that items like clean drinking water will be affordable to all.

Theme: Climate Change

Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programs.

EDFU Foundation will be attending and holding parallel events during CSW66 in March of 2022, where Climate Change will be the main topic. We will focus on access and equality to resources including water and sanitation.

How are you helping to ensure clean water and sanitation for all by 2030?

What is EDFU Foundation doing to help improve quality education for all by 2030?
EDFU Foundation is currently trying to raise funds to bring laptops to the children of the Ylê Asé de Yansa to help them gain access to education during the pandemic. Since COVID-19 has closed schools, the Ylê Asé de Yansa do not have resources to allow their youth to continue to learn. Their community building also caved in and collapsed, so the children do not have a place to learn in either. Our president, Sheldon Williams, will be going to Sao Paulo, Brazil in a week to physically help rebuild a new facility for them and hopefully deliver laptops.
